Homemade Hot Cocoa

As many people know, I am fond of fikas. Fika is a Swedish word that denotes the concept of having a coffee break, often with bakeries or sandwiches. I love to have one in the mid morning and another in the mid afternoon. In dark and chilly winter, the sun often goes down at 3pm, which often makes people feel a bit sleepy. So I love to drink hot cocoa for my second fika of the day. If I am not particularly hungry, a cup of hot cocoa will be enough. Having a warm cocoa in hands, with its rich aroma in the air, such a cozy feeling will make you feel so great, and it also gives you a nice energy boost!
Kitchen Gadgets: saucepan
Serves: 300 ml
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp dark brown sugar
- 300 ml water
Instructions
- Mix the cocoa powder and dark brown sugar and put them into a saucepan. If your dark brown sugar is a bit packed, use your finger to break them loose.
- Add water slowly and whisk to blend well.
- Transfer the saucepan into the stove with medium heat. Cook until everything is well melted.
- Pour the hot cocoa into your favorite cup and enjoy!
Note
If you prefer flavored cocoa, try add vanilla extract, cinnamon powder or a bit chili if you’re into exotic Mexican style!
